Hull/Deck/Cockpit
Cabo Ricos are hand-crafted. The heavily built, insulated hull and deck are made in one piece units and then joined together with both 3M 5200 and steel bolts. The molded-in bulwark gives safe footing while adding strength and watertight integrity at the deck-to-hull joint. The keel area is covered with additional layers of fiberglass mat to provide a double hull in this crucial area. Every Cabo Rico carries an over-sized rig with two upper and four lower shrouds plus adjustable intermediate stays; a molded-in rub rail with sacrificial strip; wide decks with strong, stainless steel stanchions, pulpits, push pits, and mast guards; a bowsprit for safer anchoring; and ABI stainless steel opening ports.
Tommy Dundee’s hull and deck are white and in excellent condition. Both the boot and sheer stripes are a very dark blue. The beige non-skid is original and in good condition. The vessel has not sustained any significant damage since it was built. The bottom has no blisters. The last bottom job (2 coats of Petit SR 60 paint, prop cleaning/paint, and new zincs) was completed by professionals in May, 2013. The teak bowsprit, cap rails, grab rails, cockpit coaming, hatches and stern pulpit seats were refinished in May 2013. Both the hull and deck were last waxed in May 2013. The 36-inch high lifelines, with forward and aft gates, were replaced in 2008. Gaskets for all ports were replaced in 2011 and all hatches were re-caulked in 2013. Screens for all ports, hatches and the companionway are included and are in excellent condition.
The cockpit has seating room for 7 adults. The original fiberglass helmsman’s seat was replaced in 2012 with a custom teak seat with build-in storage. Two large lazarettes are built into the cockpit. The port lazarette provides access to the battery charger, solar controller, primary bilge pump, fresh-water pump, refrigeration system, propane alarm system, and starter battery. The aft lazarette provides access to the RO Water Maker (20 gallons/hour) installed in 2012, steering cables/quadrant, autopilot and the emergency tiller. Hoses for cockpit scuppers were replaced in 2011. Sunbrella canvas covering and enclosing the cockpit was replaced in 2012/2013. Steerage is by way of a stainless steel wheel connected to the rudder by both a chain/cables (2012)/quadrant and a Raymarine direct drive autopilot (2008). An Edson Navpod pedestal (with brake and S/S guard), Raymarine GPS/chartplotter (2008), Raymarine radar (2011), Sirius weather/radio (2011), Raymarine wind speed/direction, depth, speed over ground and thru water (all 2008), 4 inch Richie Powerdamp binnacle compass, and Standard Horizon remote VHF radio/AIS system (2011) are at your fingertips. The cockpit also has all lines for adjusting sails except for the main halyard and reefing, a freshwater hot and cold shower, an Edson teak fold-up table with cup holders, engine controls and instruments, Atkins Hoyle davits, two propane lockers, and a 12 volt outlet. A Magma propane grill, two large teak pulpit seats, a S/S fishing pole holder, a S/S flagpole holder, a LifeSling 2 Overboard Rescue System, and a S/S fold-down boarding ladder are built into or attached to the stern pulpit. All exterior lights except for the spreader lights were replaced with LEDs in 2011.
